Digital ICE4 How does it work?
Previously any dust removal software just sort of blurred the entire image, sometimes in a focused way, in order to remove dust spots from the picture. DigitalICE works entirely differently, while the scanner scans the image for the regular color/lighting data an infrared beam is bounced off the surface of the film and this beam detects actual pieces of dust or tiny fibers on the film. The scanner relays this information to the scan software and then the scan software can blur out real dust and scratches without blurring the whole image.
