F.A.Q. - Film Scanning

1. How long will the process take?

The turnaround time depends on several factors. Sometimes our current production line of orders is larger than at other times so our turnaround time will vary, especially during holiday periods. The turnaround time also varies with the size and complexity of the order. For fewer than 300 negatives under normal conditions you can expect that your order will be completed in about 7-14 business days. Basic and Basic Plus scanning can be completed faster than Deluxe or Pro scanning due to the editing required. If you need a fast turnaround time we can complete orders very fast but rush charges may apply. Info On Rush Charges. Because the turnaround time can vary please Contact Us for a more accurate estimate of turnaround time for your order.

2. Should the negatives be cut into short strips?

NO. It is actually easier for us to scan a long continuous film strip of negatives than to scan several short strips. That said, we have no problem with receiving them cut or uncut.

3. I don't want every frame scanned how do I mark it for you so that you know which frames to scan and which to avoid?

Most negatives are cut into strips of 4-6 frames and tucked into translucent sleeves for storage. If you have the negative strip centered in the sleeve you can use a pen or sharpie to carefully mark an X just above each image that you want scanned. Or if you want most scanned with a few exceptions you can put the X over the ones to skip, but leave us notes to know how to interpret your annotations. If the scanning order is important to you please include clear notes for us to follow.

4. How will the files be named? Can I choose the names?

The images are batch named. (For example: Summer1984_001.jpg, Summer1984_002.jpg, Summer1984_003.jpg, etc., etc.)

We can name the slides from one group or section by one title and the slides from the next group can be named something different. Be sure to label the sections in some way just to let us know what filenames you want.

5. Can I view these images on a TV?

We can put your images on a DVD-Slideshow disk. You can use this to view all of your images in order on a TV.

6. Can I use the images to print photos or email to friends?

A CD-Rom of your jpeg images from us is just like having a CD-Rom of some jpegs you made with your digital camera. There are no copy protections or restrictions on how you can use the images. You can put them on your computer from the CD-Rom and edit them, email them, print them, or use one as your screensaver.

7. How do I pay for services? Do I send a check with the order?

Don't send any payment with the order. After we receive your package we will count the frames and calculate a bill. We will contact you via email with a billing statement. You can either mail a check to:
